Topic

Freedom in the Bible

What is involved in examining the theme of biblical freedom?

How do we decide what in the Bible is relevant for this theme?

Is it enough to examine the vocabulary of freedom in the Bible?

In today’s world do we derive our concept of freedom exclusively from the Bible? Should we do so?

Workshops (8.15pm)

William Olhausen

William is the Rector of the Carrigrohane Union of Parishes in Cork.  He read theology at Oxford and has a PhD in biblical and theological hermeneutics from Liverpool University.

Topic

The Spirit of Freedom in St. Paul

Are they right?  Or was Paul the first great liberation theologian – ‘the Apostle of the free Spirit’?

Topic

The Idea of Freedom in Exodus

Exploring themes of escape and journey, wandering and wilderness, and resonances in modern literature.

Seán O’Sullivan:

Seán is a priest of the Diocese of Cork and Ross at present involved in adult religious education in the diocese.  Has worked in South America and the U.S.A. as well as in Cork parishes.  Recently completed scripture studies in Catholic Theological Union, Chicago.
